IELTS Reading

In the IELTS exam you will take either the Academic or General Reading test.  Both are 1 hour long and have 3 sections with a total of 40 questions.  It is recommended that you spend about 20 minutes on each section.  You can write on the question papers but make sure you write you answers on the answer sheet.  Unlike the listening exam, there is no extra time for transfering your answers to the answer sheet at the end of the exam.  

How many points?
The question types are the same for each exam.  Each question is worth 1 mark.  There are no half points.  Your answer will be marked wrong if:
- you write too many words
- the grammar of your answer is wrong (when appropriate)
- your spelling is incorrect
- you only write part of the answer
- the answer is wrong

The different types of questions:
multiple choice
short answers
note/sentence/chart/table/diagram completion
summary completion
matching subheadings to paragraphs
True/False/Not Given or Yes/No/Not Given
classification
matching lists/phrases

To answer these different questions you need to know which techniques to use to help you find the answers quickly and accurately.
